Here in Indianapolis, you will find a world-class golf course done in superb fashion by one of the greatest names in American golfing history – Donald Ross. This historic course is one that our members are proud to call their home.
Donald Ross, a transplanted Scottish golfer and club maker, came to the United States in 1899 and began designing and building courses up and down the East Coast and in the Midwest. He graced this property from 1921 to 1922.
In his lifetime, Mr. Ross laid out more than 400 courses, including Seminole in Florida and Oakland Hills outside Detroit. The jewel in his crown is Pinehurst No. 2 in North Carolina, site of the 1995 and 2005 U.S. Opens. Ross is particularly known for layouts that require only a short walk from greens to tees, have domed greens, challenging grass bunkers and strategic sand hazards.
Our course at Broadmoor Country Club meanders over a gently rolling site of about 200 acres. Although times and challenges have changed in golf, there is new respect in America for the enduring work of Donald Ross. He is respected by every noted designer and player as someone able to create historic tests for golfers regardless of the lay of the land.
