About Hunting Hills Country Club
Forty-Two years ago, Hunting Hills Country Club was conceived in the mind of one of Roanoke Valley's most respected, life-long residents, businessman Gordon Willis, Sr. A visionary with a propensity for achieving the impossible, Mr. Willis labored diligently to create a respite for good golf, tennis, swimming, and social gatherings among those of like interests. Mr. Willis' vision was not a new idea; there were two area private golf and country clubs in Roanoke at the time. However, his vision was one that would create a neighborhood of family and friends who would not only use the upscale Country Club facilities, but would also build their homes around the carefully sculpted and designed Golf Course, in gently rolling hills surrounded by towering virgin forests and natural wildlife. It was not an easy endeavor to develop the Hunting Hills Area, however, Mr. Willis took the challenge, put in roads and utilities, supervised the construction, and worked tirelessly gaining the confidence of a multitude of business executives and families who chose to invest in his vision. With other visionaries, like developer T. A. Carter, and banker, John W. Boyle; and with the support of the community, the project weathered a slow economic climate (with record high interest rates) and a slow home-buying environment to become a Crown Jewel of Roanoke! We celebrate many years of family, service and excellence!
